Melbourne School District
We are proud to announce that Melbourne School District is working with Project Adam to implement a new lifesaving Cardiac Emergency Response Plan. Project Adam began in 1999 after the death of Adam Lemel, a 17-year-old Whitefish Bay, WI high school student, who collapsed and died while playing basketball. Adam suffered a Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) in which ventricular fibrillation occurred and an AED/defibrillator was not available which could have saved his life. Since 1999, Project ADAM has advocated for AED placement in schools and communities. Heart Safe School program ensures equipment is maintained, and there is a team of trained staff ready to respond to emergencies in schools across the country.
Monday, May 15, 2023 Melbourne School District will participate in a Community Mock Drill in order to be designated as a Heart Safe School.
WHAT THIS MEANS!
Monday at 10am, there will be a representative from Project Adam on campus and will create a scenario to initiate our schools rapid response team. Our team will respond as if this were a true emergency, and police, EMS, and fire dept will all respond when prompted. ALL DEPARTMENTS ARE INVOLVED AND AWARE THAT THIS IS ONLY A DRILL.
We want to make you aware that Monday May 15, 2023 AT 11:00 AM there will be emergency response vehicles responding to this drill, so please do not be alarmed; IT IS ONLY A DRILL!
