The purpose of the Melbourne Public Schools Gifted and Talented Program is to provide opportunities for students to excel to the fullest extent of their abilities.  This program was established to challenge our most able learners to reach their highest potential through differentiated curriculum, relevant projects, and independent study opportunities.

Students at Melbourne Public Schools are served in three ways:

  • Kindergarten-3rd Grade students have weekly enrichment classes with the GT teacher that focus on developing creativity and critical thinking skills.
  • 4th-6th grade students that have been identified as gifted and talented learners have GT classes for 150 minutes per week.
  • 7th-12 grade students are served through pre-advanced placement, advanced placement, and/or concurrent credit courses.  They also meet periodically for lessons with the GT teacher.

Additional opportunities available to students may include participation in such activities such as:

  • Quiz Bowl
  • Spelling Bee
